When it’s Used
Even people who don’t know much about the Spanish language, understand the trilling the R is often necessary. But what most people don’t realize is that there are certain words that don’t contain the trigger RR that typically denotes a trill, that still require it.
How it’s Done
Unfortunately, there is no English equivalent to trilling your R. The simplest way to practice it is to say an English D, followed by an English R, very quickly. Your tongue should vibrate.
Correr (run) and perro (dog) are fun words to practice when learning to trill your R, but don’t stop there. Any word that begins with R should also receive the same trill. Practice: Ruben, reloj (clock), regalo (present).
Other Trilled Rs
The other instances in which you would trill the R are whenever it follows an L, N, or S. Here are some examples to practice: Enrique, alrededor (around), Israel.
